Update: As of early February 2026, Café Reborn decided to abandon the idea of reviving the game due to copyright concerns and instead decided to create a new game in the Café style. They are currently offering refunds in their server if you gave them money over a certain amount.

Hello all! We want to announce some things out:

It is actually very unfortunate for us to post this, we actually tried a lot to not post this, we tried to resolve things peacefully, but unfortunately it appears that a project that is also focused on the Café scene, Café Reborn(formerly "GGReborn" or "Goodgame Café Reborn") has removed their announcement apologizing for what they did in relation to Cappuccino. This was a deal between Gab and the main developer of that project, meaning that if the announcement was posted, Cappuccino would no longer have plans to be open-source.

First of all, back when Cappuccino released (Jan 20th), misinformation about us was spread across their server with this announcement:

They had just found out about Cappuccino via a YouTube video, and instead of contacting us first, they rushed and made a server-wide announcement. Then, the main developer (bxn4) decided to contact Gab via DMs. This resulted in a deal. As seen in the screenshot below:

Their project was paywalling (in the form of donations) you in order to access the game for limited time periods, also called "tests" that usually happened 1 to 3 times a year. Not only is this illegal, but they also said testers would get extra gold when the "server officially released" according to the donated amount, which is technically selling in-game currency. The announcement got deleted, but the DMs weren't:

After quickly demoting all staff that playtested Cappuccino such as Ant, Minx and Murilo and accusing them of "betraying" them, their staff also created multiple "test" accounts in our system and accused our server of being "vibe coded" and being "fully AI generated" due to it having some bugs (that were fixed the same day). They also said that we cloned their server but quickly deleted it due to being unsure of it. We'd like to highlight that's impossible for us to have cloned their server since Gab was never a member of the Café Reborn development team.

Gab got threats in his DMs, saying that Cappuccino would get reported to a legal team due to it being mentioned by a supporter in the Café Reborn server what he decided to label as "advertising". In legal terms, Café Reborn is in bigger legal issues to it obtaining hundreds of dollars during a four year period. They claim donating was optional but limited tests to donators, which is essentially selling a key for an early access development test. If you need to donate to obtain access, it's not a donation, it's a fee:

It seems like as of January 30th, the apology was deleted from their announcements channel without any communication, and not only that, they're also trying to save face and stop "paywalling" access to their server now that Cappuccino is here and alive:

We do not condone this behavior. One of the motion forces for the creation of Capuccino was the constant rudeness and inconsistent progress done by the Café Reborn team. Now that our project exists, they are rushing as quickly as possible to deliver their product while also slandering us. It's also to be noted that the Café Reborn team keeps holding the idea of wiping all player data if they discover loopholes in their system, which wastes players' time.

As a result of this, Cappuccino's server code is going open-source in the future. To preserve Cappuccino and Café's legacy.

This is happening simply because the deal was broken without any further communication from them. Which is disappointing, so we're not going to let this slip away.

And, by the way, we do not restrict anything if you choose to play with us, with Café Reborn or any other project. You're free to choose and we've always been respectful to other projects, and we always treat our users and other developers with total respect. We are NOT against Café Reborn as a project, we are against their actions against other people, and their actions AGAINST US.
